- 지원 자격
- [1학년] 다음 중 하나만 해당하면 돼요. 일본 MEXT 인가교에서 12년 이상 다녔거나 다닐 예정인 경우, 해외에서 12년 이상 다녔거나 다닐 예정인 경우, 일본 안의 MEXT 인정 외국계 학교에서 12년을 다녔거나 다닐 예정인 경우, IB·Baccalaureate·Abitur·International A-Levels·GCE A-Levels·European Baccalaureate를 땄거나 딸 예정인 경우, 개별 인정을 받고 입학할 때 18세인 경우예요. [3학년 편입] 학사과정을 2년 다녔거나 다닐 예정이어야 해요. 또는 Arts/Science 준학사를 땄거나 딸 예정이면 돼요. Applied Science 준학사와 전수학교는 인정하지 않아요.
- 전형 방법
- 100% 서류전형이에요. 필기시험도 면접도 없어요. 낼 서류는 온라인 지원서, 에세이 2편, 공식 성적증명서(학교가 제출), 졸업(예정)증명, 추천서 2통, 표준화시험 성적(시험기관 직송), 영어성적(직송하고 사본도 업로드), 여권 사본, 체크리스트예요.
- 표준화 시험
- SAT(R&W, Math), ACT(Writing 포함), IB Full Diploma(6과목, Certificate는 안 돼요), GCE A-Level(3과목, 싱가포르는 H2 3과목) 중 하나 이상을 꼭 내야 해요. 최저점은 없어요. Superscore는 안 되고 한 시험일의 최고점만 인정해요. 원칙적으로 2년 이내에 딴 점수여야 해요. SAT 기관코드는 0819, ACT는 5575예요. IB와 GCE는 예측점수로도 지원할 수 있어요. 이때는 조건부 합격이라 최종 성적이 기준에 못 미치면 합격이 취소돼요. 고교 졸업 후 2년 이상 경력을 쌓은 사람과 학교에 다니지 않던 편입 지원자는 표준화시험 대신 추가 에세이(500단어)를 낼 수 있어요.
- 영어 성적 기준
- TOEFL iBT나 IELTS Academic를 내요. 지원기간 첫날을 기준으로 2년 이내에 본 시험이어야 해요. 최저점은 없어요. MyBest, TOEFL Home Edition, ITP, Essentials, IELTS Online, Indicator는 인정하지 않아요. IELTS One Skill Retake는 인정해요. TOEFL 기관코드는 0819예요.
- 영어 성적 면제
- 최근 6년 중 5년 이상을 영어로 수업하는 학교에 다녔거나, Cambridge English C2를 갖고 있으면 면제돼요.

- 장학금
- 지원할 때 함께 신청할 수 있어요. Sophia University New Student Scholarship은 수업료의 전액이나 ½, ⅓을 줘요. Benefactors' (Adachi) Scholarship은 동남아·아프리카 출신에게 수업료와 교육충실비를 전액 줘요. 입학한 뒤에는 Tuition Support Scholarship 등이 있어요. MEXT 장학금은 따로예요.

Self-Reflective Essay (택1) Topic 1
One of the challenges of living and working in today's world stems from the difficulty of grappling with the following questions: What makes a good leader? And how can we distinguish good leadership from bad leadership? According to psychologist Daniel Kahneman, this difficulty arises in part from hindsight bias, which can be described as the tendency to "assess the quality of decisions not by whether the process was sound but by whether its outcome was good or bad." In other words, it is easy for us to fall into the cognitive trap of assuming that a bad outcome must necessarily result from bad leadership, and a good outcome from good leadership, regardless of the process that led to that outcome. Write an essay in which you reflect upon one of the following two experiences in your life: A time when you made a good decision that resulted in a negative outcome, or a time when you made a poor decision that resulted in a positive outcome. According to Indologist Wendy Doniger, "a myth is not a lie or a false statement to be contrasted with truth or reality or fact." Instead, "a myth is above all a story that is believed, believed to be true, and that people continue to believe despite sometimes massive evidence that it is, in fact, a lie." Myths are, in other words, stories about us and our world that are important or sacred in some way. They are stories that communicate the shared values that bind communities together. The truth or falsity we attribute to a myth is not based on its objectivity or historical accuracy, but on what it expresses about human nature and the beliefs that we hold dear. Self-Reflective Essay (택1) Topic 3
Aside from its beauty and aesthetic appeal, one important role that art plays in our society is to serve as a means of critiquing our own way of life. On this topic, Peruvian novelist and politician Mario Vargas Llosa writes that "the greatest contribution of literature to human progress is perhaps to remind us… that the world is badly made… and can be improved," and that "good literature, genuine literature, is always subversive, unsubmissive, rebellious: a challenge to what exists." Although Llosa here is concerned solely with literature, the idea is just as applicable to numerous other forms of art. Write an essay in which you discuss the "rebellious" nature of a work of art (a novel, a poem, a film, a painting, a song, a performance, etc.) that you have encountered in the last two years and how it challenged your understanding of yourself and/or the world around you. Additional Essay (표준화시험 미제출자 한정)
In lieu of SAT/ACT scores or IB/GCE A-levels grades, these applicants must submit an additional essay (500 words) that describes any career/life experiences relevant to their admission: 1) First-year applicants who have been pursuing a career for at least two years after graduation from high school. 2) Transfer applicants who have not been enrolled in a degree program in the last two years.

참고 사항

- 4월 입학 2차 지원은 '일본 내 유효 체류자격 보유자'만 할 수 있어요. 해외에 살고 있다면 4월 입학은 1차에만 지원할 수 있어요.
- 조기졸업 제도가 있어요. 3년(6학기) 이상 다니고 GPA 3.50 이상이어야 해요.
- 편입생은 최대 62학점을 인정해 줘요. 입학 후 유학으로 12학점을 더해 총 74학점이 상한이에요. 다녀야 하는 기간은 2년 줄어들어요.
- 입학자 수는 공개하지 않았어요. 지원자와 합격자만 Figures 페이지에 공개해요.
